Which Hair Accessories Can I Wear With A Veil?

“Can you wear that with a veil?”

Do you know, it’s the question I get asked the most? So I thought I’d share the answer with you here in case you have been wondering the same thing.

The truth is, all accessories can be worn with veils :) Some may be easier to put in than others but, for the most part, it’s fairly easy to manipulate and move things around so don’t let your veil dictate your accessory!

First of all, let’s talk about the veil itself, because you may or may not know how that goes in yet. (I didn’t either, so you’re not alone!)

Veils are usually attached to a comb or a clip, which will be slotted or fixed in to your hair, usually in to a braid or an up do. If you’re wearing your hair loose, your hairdresser will most likely do a tiny French plait a couple of inches long where your veil is going to sit and will then slot the veil comb in to the braid so it holds firmly in place - magic!

I think the confusion with hair accessories is them being visible if you wear your veil covering your face to walk down the aisle.

If that’s the case, your veil will be lifted once you get to the altar and is unlikely to be covering your face for the rest of the day, so your accessory is only covered for a very short time.

Still with me? Great! So let’s look at fitting the hair accessories!

Hair vines can be placed above the veil comb - you won’t actually see the comb itself as it will be covered with the veil fabric, so your vine will sit nicely just above it. You could have something that’s a little wider than the veil comb or go for a much larger piece - there’s no definitive way to wear your accessories so see what feels most comfortable for you.

Other accessories work in the same way. Pins will slot in above the veil comb and the teeth of an accessory comb should slide comfortably in to the hair above the veil comb, particularly if you choose one with flat teeth.

Tiaras and headbands are straight forward as they’ll sit across your head and won’t interfere with your veil.

My top tip though is this: Don’t base your accessory choice purely around your veil. The likelihood is you’ll remove your veil after your ceremony, so you’ll want a headpiece that can hold its own!

Choose something you love and that works with your hair type (if you’re not sure where to start, this will help!) as you’ll feel far more comfortable.

Any experienced hairdresser will be a veil master though and will have many ways to work your accessory in to your look, so don’t feel limited in the accessory options you have available.
