5 simple ways to wear a hair vine
Hair vines are one of the most versatile hair accessories around at the moment but one question I always get asked at wedding exhibitions is “How do you put them in your hair?” So, lovely bride-to-be, I’ve put together a few ideas to help you make up your mind about whether a hair vine is right for you and rave about all their fabulous qualities!
The low-down on hair vines
Hair vines are lengths of wire, twisted together with pearls, beads or crystals. They come in different lengths, colours and styles and can be simple or intricately detailed. To answer the question about how you put them in your hair, there are a few options and if you’re having one made to order you can ask for it to be made in any of the following ways. Most hair vines come with a little loop at either end, and possibly a couple along the vine, so that you can pin them in to your hair using hair grips, but you can also get them attached to a little comb at either end or have ribbon attached to the loops so you can tie it around your head like a wreath. The beauty of these little wonders is that you can wear them however you like, meaning that you don’t have to have a specific hairstyle in mind when choosing your accessory as a hairdresser will be able to fit the vine around any style you choose.
So now for a little bit of inspiration of how you could wear yours!
Across your forehead

Perfect for Boho babes, pin your vine across your forehead or tie it with ribbons at the back. Even detailed vines work well this way but if you’re thinking of going for this option, opt for a vine that is not too clustered with details all the way around so it doesn’t look too overpowering.
Top tip: If you want your vine to go all the way around your head, like a wreath or halo, it’s worth sending across a measurement of your head that your designer can work to. You could ask for a jeweller clasp to be attached to the end to hold it in place.
To one side

With side tiaras becoming more popular in recent years, why not wear your hair vine the same way? Adding detail to one side of your hair, whether you wear it up or down, will add interest to your style.
Top tip: Sweep your hair to one side and pin your vine on the other to balance out your hair style and give a sense of flow.
Around the back

It seems a bit strange that something so detailed should be placed at the back of your head but in actual fact, as these pictures show, it gives a lovely effect. This is a great way of accenting an up-do or adding interest to relaxed, loose hair and will give your guests a surprise when they watch you glide down the aisle!
Top tip: If you’re having your vine custom-made, it’s worth trying different lengths to see what feels comfortable. Most vines are fairly lightweight so shouldn’t feel too imposing but try a few to see what you like best.
Weaved into an up-do

Because of their flexibility, you can weave a vine into plaits or twists to add interest. You could braid them in so that details show through your plait or twist it to fit around twists and curls.
Top tip: Opt for a longer length so you have more to play with in your hair.
Around an up-do

Hair vines are a great way to draw focus to the shape of an up-doand look great pinned around buns or into chignons.
Top tip: If you’re planning on pinning your vine into the side of a twist or chignon, you could ask for it to be wired on to a little comb in the middle to give it a little more stability in your hair and the loops can be used for extra support.
You could also wear your vine like you would a tiara or hair band, placed across the top of your head and pinned behind your ears or tied with ribbons at the nape of your neck. The beauty of opting for a vine instead of a tiara is that you don't get the pinch of a tiara band, making your accessory a little more comfortable to wear all day. Plus, if you change your mind on your hair style, you can always adapt your vine to suit!
